What is a home buyer rebate?

When you buy a home, the seller usually pays your agent a commission of around 3% of the price. A rebate is when your agent gives part of that back to you, in cash, at closing. It is your money, and in most states it is completely legal. Buyer rebates have even been encouraged by federal antitrust regulators at the U.S. Department of Justice as a way to save buyers money.
